Item Description
Two sheets of stiff paper, each featuring one-panel pen and ink illustration by Lang Campbell. "Uncle Wiggily's Adventures" started in 1910 and was written by Howard R. Garis. Prose story had accompanying illustration with brief caption underneath. Captions were abandoned in 1925 in favor of word balloons. Titles include "Uncle Wiggily And The Spearmint, Uncle Wiggily And The Lightning Bug, Uncle Wiggily's Crazy Car" and "Uncle Wiggily's Late Fire Cracker." Cartoons have penciled titles and dates indicating they ran in newspapers Jul. 20-23, 1925. Each panel has Campbell's name with 3 of 4 having inked date as well. Uncle Wiggily is pictured in 2 panels, "Uncle Wiggily's Crazy Car" showing car that is same design as rare German Uncle Wiggily tin litho wind-up toy. Captions read as follows "The Bob Cat Came Sneaking Along" and shows Bob Cat sneaking up on Uncle Wiggily who is seen in distance. "She Started For The Spring" features young rabbit in nightgown. "Uncle Wiggily Rode Along" features Uncle Wiggily in aforementioned car with excited ladybug image in foreground. "The Wolf Listened At The Telephone" shows Wolf with telephone receiver at ear. Pin holes along margins, not affecting art. Light dust soiling with .25" moisture staining above one art panel, dust soiling from paper clip at bottom of "Crazy Car" panel not affecting art or text. Three spots of moisture staining measuring between .25" and .5" affects "Fire Cracker" panel's art. Fine-VF. Art areas remain Exc. See following items #1562-1564.
