Item Description
12.5x25.25" professionally framed and matted display containing three typed letters from American politician Stevenson. Governor of Illinois 1949-1953 and presidential candidate in 1952 and 1956. Letters on left and right have been matted to approximately 7.25x6.75" and both bear South LaSalle Street, Chicago, Illinois addresses. First letter is dated August 23, 1956 and reads "Dear Mr. Thomas: Thank you so much for your cheery note. I need not tell you how elated I am nor how grateful. Our prospects are bright indeed and - with your help - November will justify our optimism! Cordially, Aldai E. Stevenson." As one can tell from letter's content, this relates to the 1956 presidential election. Letter on right is dated August 11, 1960 and reads: "Dear Mr. Thomas: Thank you so much for your gracious letter, which touches me very deeply. Not having sought the nomination, I did not expect it -- nor did I expect such an out-pouring of respect and confidence! I am quite content, and am grateful beyond words for the enduring loyalty of so many friends. Cordially yours, Adlai E. Stevenson." Since Stevenson had run for president in 1952 and 1956, many expected him to run in 1960 as well. Letter in middle has been matted to 5x8.25" and bears the letterhead of the Illinois executive mansion. Dated December 1, 1952 letter reads: "Dear Mr. Thomas: My heartfelt thanks for your understanding message. It was good of you to think of me and I am most grateful. Sincerely yours, Adlai Stevenson, Governor." Each letter has been folded once as mailed. It should be noted that all 3 letters are addressed to the same recipient - Ronald O. Thomas. Exc. display. Comes with Hake's COA.
