Item Description
This is the largest SDS collection we've seen and we divided into this and the following two lots. In this group of 25, every item includes "SDS" except row 2, #3 and row 4, #4. All are from 1960s except row 2, #4 is from 2006 re-organization of the group. While the group formed in 1960 and their "Port Huron Statement" manifesto dates from 1962, as far as we know, their first button is row 1, #1 reading "A Free University In A Free Society/SDS." This was inspired by the Fall 1964 Free Speech Movement lead by student activist Mario Savio at UCLA/Berkeley. Vast majority are Exc. to Mint. Exceptions are row 1, #1 tiny faint edge dot, row 2, #2 moderate faint tanning, row 2, #3 few small scratches in reflected light. Row 3, #4 couple dark but small marks. Many rarities. See following SDS two lots related to racism/sexism/Vietnam.
