Item Description
15/16". Metal back with bar pin. Small 1/8" cello split on reverse not apparent from the front. Front inscribed "L.L.L." the initials of the group founded by Howard Russell, also founder of the Anti-Saloon League. Originally called the Lincoln League, in 1912 the group was re-named Lincoln-Lee Legion in order to make the signing of abstinent pledges by children more appealing to Southern children and their parents. Girls who pledged were called "Willards" after Frances Willard of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Northern boys were called "Lincolns" and Southern boys were known as "Lees." By 1925, over 5 million children had signed abstinence pledge cards. Only example of this design we've seen. Displays Mint. Also see prohibition buttons #446-447.
