Item Description
9.75" square tin litho base and attachments. 1930s. Toy has two overhead stairways with a small cut-out litho tin person on each. Additional buildings include roadside rest stop with clerk at counter and magazines, etc. shown in bkg., brick tunnel and building with skylights. There is a flat lithoed policeman at one side who stands by a stop and go sign on pole. This reverses each time the car travels around in a circle. A two-dimensional motorcycle policeman is cocked and positioned behind the refreshment stand. After car makes several loops around, this policeman suddenly darts out from behind the building in his track causing the car to stop, thus the name "pinched." Bottom sides and platform top of toy have great lithographed scenes as well including cars on a road being stopped by traffic cop on motorcycle plus courtroom scene with judge, jurors in jury box and prisoner peering out from behind barred window with striped uniform. Scattered wear in the form of paint nicks and some bare metal spots on top of platform stairs and tunnel building, etc. Some wear similar to this around edges of platform. Still displays Fine. An all-around great toy with amusing graphics and actions.
