Item Description
4.25x11x6" tall. Early Mickey toy c. 1931 distributed by Borgfeldt. Toy features a pair of 4" tall wood figures of Mickey and Minnie, each complete w/string tail. They are attached to a tin litho platform base w/wood wheels. Top of platform features choice circus scene in early color scheme w/Mickey having blush cheeks and wearing green pants. He is depicted as an animal trainer while Minnie balances atop a ball. Between them is Wienie, a dachshund which appeared in several early shorts including Plane Crazy. Wienie is depicted stretched into a loop through which a tiger leaps. As toy moves forward, the figures do somersaults. Attached to front is original pull string w/wood ball knob. Underside of toy has bellows mechanism and produces a squeaking sound. Tin base has small scattered paint nicks, mostly along edges. Top of platform at left has some small scattered spots of oxidation, including a few on Mickey image. However, tin litho remains bright, glossy w/vibrant color. Figures have some tiny scattered paint nicks, mostly on/around ears. Mickey has an exceedingly minor 1/8" hairline on bottom edge of pants, Minnie has a .5" hairline to top of nose. The base is Fine while the figures are VF. This classic and early toy is one of the nicest distributed by Borgfeldt and has always been a favorite of ours. This is only the fourth we've been able to offer in our 41 years w/our last example selling for over $6,000. From the Carl Lobel Collection.
