Item Description
7.5x7.5x10.5" tall c. 1940s. Extensive text reads "Help Win The War! Keep Crowns (Bottle Caps) Dry/We Are All Asked To Salvage Waste Material, Especially The Valuable Metal In All Types Of Crowns (Beer, Soft Drinks, Etc.). Save Your Crowns, Keep Them Dry And Deposit Them In This Box/Dad's Root Beer Bottling Co." Other panel shows U.S. flag w/text "For Dad's Crowns Only/Conserve Tin" w/push-in trap for caps marked "Drop Here." Possibly made as mock-up of never produced homefront item. Box is not complete as it is missing 1.5" section of two panels. These edges appear to be factory cuts. Also missing a top panel to enclose the top of the box. Line of moisture mark appears on flag side. Noticeable wear, color rubs, scuffs. Open section can be easily displayed to the back leaving a complete box appearance when viewed from the front. An interesting concept for metal conservation during war time. First we've seen. VG.
