Item Description
5.5x7.25x7.25" tall nicely designed high-quality radio model #409, 1930s. Painted wood body is variety in cream with green accents (also produced in black). Comes with original box illustrated on all sides. This box is very rare, only the second we've offered in our 41 years and the previous example we sold was missing the lid. Lid depicts Mickey at center playing an upright bass. Around him are Minnie, Horace, Clarabelle and Pluto. Four side panels have different repeated images of Mickey, model name and number and original $10.95 price sticker. The lid is loose and missing side flaps but can be easily put in position for display so this does not affect its appearance. Lid does have 6" heavy crease with surface paper break 2" running across center of Mickey image, reverse has archival tape repair. One side panel is missing a 1x3" piece from top edge. Sides show additional trace of wear/aging but box retains nice shape as original cardboard inserts remain. Lid Good, rest VG. Radio is detailed by an attached aluminum piece at each front corner with images of Minnie, Pluto, Horace and Clarabelle. Also has nice die-cut aluminum grille plate depicting Mickey playing bass and behind this is the original fabric speaker cover. Additional attachments include "Emerson" plates on front and back. Original knobs intact. Complete and all original including wiring and tubes, radio turns on but we could not pull in any stations. Trace of paint wear to extreme edges. Other typical lt. wear/aging but a very nice example overall. Fine/VF. A Disneyana classic further enhanced by the inclusion of the box. From the Michael J. Stern Collection.
