Item Description
8.75x8.75x1.5" deep gold foil-covered box w/lid reading "Merry Christmas." Attached to lid is 4.25x6.5" glossy illustration done by Albert Dorne. In the 1940s illustrator Dorne painted a 'Typical Night' in the Cub Room at the Stork Club for Big Joe Knapp's Collier's magazine. This illustration was used as the menu cover from that time on. As Sherman Billingsley moves amongst his regulars like Dorothy Killgallen, Arthur Godfrey, Tallulah Bankhead, Walter Winchell, Morton Downey, etc. Henny Rasch is seen w/her camera snapping away recording some type of N.Y.C. night life history. Inside box lid reads "Stork Club Lipstick And Nai Enamel/Nude Soap/Preferred By Sophisticated Stork Clubites/Presented To You By/Sherman Billingsley/Arthur Godfrey/Morton Downey." Photos of these three men appear above their names inside lid. Box contains three 2.5x3.5" oval bars of soap, each w/raised profile of them. The back of each soap has "Stork Club" logo. Also included in box are two 2.25" tall lipstick containers w/embossed logo and one 3" tall bottle of nail enamel. Interesting to note that the color of lipstick and nail enamel is "Jacqueline." Of the many noteable celebrities that frequented the Stork Club in the 1950s, one familiar couple were Jack and Jacqueline Kennedy. Items are unused and Mint. Interesting souvenir from the New York City nightclub days of the 1950s.
