Item numbers 976 though 2670 in auction 196
Item Description
One of two designs from 1941 produced by Ostby & Barton of Rhode Island and used by dairies participating in the Superman Defense Club milk program. Ring tops feature various initials of milk company sponsor, in this case a letter "B." Also see next item. Below the initial is a diagonal lightning bolt and below that an eyeball surrounded by accent lines. The brass top plate snaps off from the base and the underside of the snap-off piece holds paper sticker picturing and reading "Superman." As typical with nearly all, this has some wear. The entire image and lettering remains intact but below the letters "MAN" is a 1/16" tall by 3/16" wide spot of missing white bkg. paper. The image still displays as strong and complete. Brass surfaces are extremely clean with small luster accents remaining around the star and planet designs at the top of each side plus some around the raised details of the snap-off top. Bands are perfectly smooth. In our new Pop Culture Memorabilia price guide we put the Fine value at $5,000 and VF at $10,000. This ring grades a solid Fine and some might say a bit better.
