Item Description
14x20" second printing stiff paper poster featuring art by Rick Griffin for Jan. 14, 1967 event held at the Polo Grounds in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA. Various youth movements came together for this event. Many 1960s icons appeared and their names are done in different font styles by right and left margins. One is Timothy Leary and at this event he game his most memorable speech telling everyone to "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out." Others are Dick Gregory, Jerry Ruben, Allen Ginsberg, Michael McClure, Gary Snyder, others. Also performing were "All San Francisco Rock Bands" and while not specified, these were The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service. At center is illustration of a Native American Indian on horseback w/guitar slung over his shoulder. Just below the large title text is an eagle talon holding pair of lightning bolts. Around top border is additional text referring to items which should to be brought to the event such as "Photos Of Personal Saints And Gurus And Heroes Of The Underground - Flutes, Flowers, Beads, Flags, Incense," etc. Lt. aging and handling at corners.
