Item Description
7.25x19.5" (when opened) handbill consists of two 7.25x9.75" separate handbills, attached at fold as produced in a folder format. Front handbill shows Carter holding small globe of Earth in his hand as devil sits atop it, other devils throughout illustration seen with 2 skeletons and images of flying crows and levitating spirit-like woman. "Marvels That Obfuscate The Will, Charm The Imagination, Confound Intelligence!" Folder opens to reveal 4 highly-detailed colorful scenes showing Carter cheating the gallows, showing hanged and hooded man, Carter flying away in spirit form; vanishing elephant act with large Indian elephant; Carter escaping death with devils whispering in his ears and great scene showing Carter opening cabinet with devils, skeleton, witch and bats. Back cover consists of large image of Carter in Swami's turban. Great graphics. c. 1920s. All image designs shown were also used for posters. Lt. aging. VF.
