Auction #197 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 991 in auction 197
Item Description
1" (25mm) with "A. Lincoln" above his image and with "A. Johnson" above his image on the reverse. On the front, the brass rim reads "For President 1864." On the reverse the rim reads "For Vice President 1864." The emulsion on the Lincoln side has lost a bit of the gray tone from the left and lower portion of his face. Still, viewed with the naked eye, his image does still appear largely complete. The Johnson emulsion is essentially Mint. Both sides still have most original luster. This variety with a brass loop on the top edge is seen much less frequently than the variety 1864-96 without the loop.
