Auction #197 - Part II
Item numbers 992 through 2667 in auction 197
Item Description
Lot of two. First is 3x3x7" tall box with colorful lid. c. 1950s by Alps, Japan. Lid has three 1/8" puncture marks, although these blend somewhat. Lid is still tight. Fine. Bear has gray plush-covered body with fabric coveralls. Tin litho shoes/hands. A colorful tin litho "baby book" attaches to a pair of metal rods on bear's stomach. This has 9 pages featuring animal illustrations. There is a magnet in the underside of the bear's right hand and when wound, bear flips through the book as if reading it. When bear gets to last page, left hand flips book closed to start again. Book shows scattered trace of aging to the tin litho pages, o/w quite bright and clean. VF. Second is 5x7.5x3" tall box "Mechanical Drinking Bear." Made by Alps, Japan. Box has lt. creases. Slightly concave. No broken corners. Box VG/Fine. Box has original insert. 9" tall bear designed to sit or stand. Holds plastic milk bottle and cup. Designed so bear can pour liquid from bottle into cup, then raise cup to head as it tilts back and it appears that he drinks from the cup. For this to function, there is internal rubber tubing for the liquid to flow from the bottle to the cup and back to the bottle. It is unlikely that this rubber tubing would still hold liquid, otherwise mechanism works fine. Bear displays Exc.
