Item Description
Large 2-1/8" button, one of 3 different designs, all c. 1900 and apparently intended for those attending a Shriner's fraternal lodge convention in Troy, NY. The reclining camel wears a Shriner's fez and also the company's collar with a small bow tie. A lodge initiate stands in his black socks, pantless, but wearing one of the company's shirts as he grasps a rope. He wears a blindfold and his hair is standing on end. See the following related real photo depiction of this initiation activity. The button is done in superb color which includes bright gold accenting on the camel's blanket and reins. Reverse has large company trademark design with additional text for their "Shirt Collars And Cuffs - Noble Goods For 'Noble's' Wear." Paper also specifies W&H as the maker. Trivial age traces on the button paper. Upper edge of the reverse has couple near dot size fragments of cello that did not tuck below the collet but they cause no problem as they lay perfectly flat. An outstanding example with high gloss. Exc. and displays Mint. Among the very best early product pinbacks. See related buttons in next lot.
