Item Description
Based on the best-selling 1963 book by Maurice Sendak, lot consists of 21 dolls in various states of production, 6 being full-body dolls, each of these being plush and approximately 19” tall. c. 1970s. Complete dolls include - Moishe (w/o mouth or outer body details), 2 Bernard dolls (both w/o facial features), 2 Tzippy dolls (one w/o mouth, other w/o any head details) and Max (who is w/o his wolf suit). Designed by Mel Birnkrant and Bonnie Erickison, who also designed Miss Piggy and many other famous Muppets for Henson Associates. These dolls were experiments in perfecting the patterns before final production started. Two dolls have attached "Sample" tags noting Popo Manufacturing Ltd of Taipei, Taiwan as manufacturers. Scattered aging and dust soiling to linen. One Tzippy doll has small areas of staining around mouth which has sticker at mouth. Fine overall.
