Item numbers 992 through 2667 in auction 197
Item Description
This 7/8" tall figural enamel on brass lapel stud depicts the Yellow Kid, generally credited as being the first ever comic strip character. Lettering on his nightshirt reads "Hogan's Alley Is Out Fer McKinley." This slogan represents the first ever comic character endorsement of a presidential candidate. The figure has a barely visible near hairline 1/16" enamel sliver off from the yellow area of his neck but only showing to the naked eye under the closest inspection. All other enamel is complete and includes touches of red tone on each of his large ears. Reverse of the piece has about 50% of its silvering and 50% of the underneath brass tone showing. Only the third example we've been able to offer in over 4 decades. Exc. and displays N. Mint.
