Item Description
These 14 beautifully colored celluloid buttons are 1.25" each issued to promote Philadelphia newspaper comic strips. Most of these have the typical backpaper reading "World's Most Famous Comics/Evening Ledger Every Day." In this group the Mickey Mouse button has the second variety backpaper reading "Listen To Brother Bill/Every Day 6 P.M. WIP" (call letters for a Philadelphia radio station). The buttons in this set without papers are row 1, #1; row 2, #4 and row 4, #1 and #3. The Mickey and Minnie buttons in this set have sales records each in the $1,000 range and many other characters are in the $200 range. The Minnie example in this set has some very slightly raised bumps on its surface just a little noticeable to the touch. It remains totally bright and clean. In this auction we also offer Minnie as a single item #1015. The only other button with a small condition issue is for Snuffy Smith. This has very faint age on the cartoon balloon bkg. and a couple very faint dots on the green bkg. All other buttons display totally clean and with high gloss. The most beautiful vintage comic character set ever produced. Only about the third complete set we've ever offered.
