Item Description
5.25x7-5/8" hardcover Photoplay edition with 345 pages. Written by Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs, this is the 9th in his series of Tarzan books and was first published in 1923. This edition was published by Grosset & Dunlap in conjunction with release of the 1927 silent film "Tarzan And The Golden Lion." Shortly after publication, there was a dinner banquet to celebrate the publication of the book and commemorating the film in which many important people involved with production of film signed interior frontispiece. Signatures include publishers Alexander Grosset, George T. Dunlap, Executive Producer (and father of future president John F. Kennedy) Joseph P. Kennedy, Film Booking Offices of America Vice President Joseph I. Schnitzer, Tarzan creator/author Edgar Rice Burroughs, film producer Edwin C. King, James H. Pierce (Tarzan), film director J. P. McGowan, Frederick Peters (Estaban Miranda), D'Arcy D. Corrigan (Weesimbo), Boris Karloff (Owaza in one of his early film roles), Robert Bolder (John Peebles), technical director Major F.J. Franklin, Harold R. Goodwin (Jack Bradley) and 2 others. Book features 4 bw interior photos from film. Comes with original dust jacket which shows light wear and aging to spine with edge wear at margins, two .5" tears to top front cover. VF. Book itself has slightest warp to front cover but is Exc. overall with N. Mint pages. Signature page remains clean and all signatures are bold. There were 20-25 copies of "Tarzan And The Golden Lion" signed by this group of people at aforementioned banquet, last example we know of that came to sale bringing $15,000. A great collection of important signatures related to a long thought lost Tarzan film. Comes with Hake's COA.
