Item Description
13.5x17.5" panel of art board has original pen and ink caricature portrait of beloved American author Mark Twain. Art is by "Boston Post" cartoonist Norman Ritchie and is signed by him in lower right corner and dated 1910. Nice large image of a contemplative Twain is at center holding open "Mark Twain - Greatest Of American Humorists" book. Twain is surrounded by caricatures of his most famous characters including Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Prince & Pauper, Joan of Arc, Pudd'n Head Wilson, Col. Sellers. Most likely commissioned to commemorate Twain's accomplishments shortly after his death on Apr. 10, 1910. Art has been matted w/Ritchie's name and home newspaper at top. Mat is 16.5x20" and makes for an Exc. display.
