Item Description
Lot of 4 single panel pen and ink and/or charcoal editorial original art on thin drawing boards. c. mid 1940s. Art is 8.5x11", 11x13.5", 14x17.25", 14x16". First piece by Gordon Campbell shows Patton in tank zooming past "Paris" roadsign to which soldier accompanying him says "Aren't We Stopping At Paris General Patton?" to which Patton replies "Nope, Berlin!" Exc. Second piece has charcoal portrait by Paul Plaschke and was commissioned as a memorial piece for Patton by "The Chicago-American" newspaper after his death in 1945. Patton is surrounded by heart w/text "The Brave Heart Of America" text about Patton's helmet. Lt. handling wear, creases and tears at corners. Fine+. Next piece is by "Akron Beacon Journal" cartoonist Web Brown and shows soldier sitting amidst wreckage opening Christmas presents and distributing them to children in rags. Next piece is by "Brooklyn Eagle" cartoonist Vincent A. Svoboda titled "The Souvenir Hunter" and shows U.S. soldier stringing large string of beads which reads "Pacific Islands." Last 2 pieces come with 15x20" mats and display Exc.
