Item Description
10x22.75" thin illustration board has original pen and ink/charcoal illustration by "Nashville Banner" cartoonist Jack Knox c. 1964. Art depicts LBJ in cowboy hat leading "Big Parade" including Hubert Humphrey, Walter Reuther, Martin Luther King Jr., Socialist Leader Norman Thomas as well as man wearing Democratic donkey mask pulling beleaguered voter by nose ring who carries "I Don't Like It, But--" sign. Knox has personally signed and inscribed upper right corner "For Gordon Campbell, Who Made This One Look Good In Color - With All Good Wishes Jack Knox. 11-18-64." Noticeable handling wear, vertical ripple along left margin. Two .75" areas of discoloration on LBJ's hands. Fine. 12.5x15.5" art board has pen and ink/charcoal illustration by "Peoria Journal Star" cartoonist Les Immel titled "Hamburger Coins Coming Up" which shows LBJ as burger chef preparing "Copper" burger w/"Silver" buns to feed anthropomorphic machine at counter. Cartoon deals w/new production of U.S. coinage which had copper clad w/silver. c. mid-late 1960s. Exc. 14x18.75" thin illustration board has "A Tree Grows In Washington" cartoon by "Sioux City Journal" cartoonist Eldon Pletcher which shows LBJ sleeping in hammock attached to "Dept. of Housing And Urban Development - New Branches For The Executive Dept. of Government" tree. U.S. Capitol Building and Washington Monument in bkg. Cartoon deals with growth of government w/creation of new departments under LBJ's presidency. Pen and ink w/charcoal and zipatone accents to hammock. Scattered white correctional fluid touch-ups. Displays Exc. Last 2 have matching mats w/cartoon title labels at bottoms and cartoonist's name at top.
