Auction #198 - Part II
Item numbers 500 through 1103 in auction 198
Item Description
1.25" featuring bw photo which has had color added to produce image with tan skin tone and red outfit. Printed diagonally on his left shoulder is his name in small letters "Geronimo." Upper text specifies event "Phoenix Carnival Dec. 1899" and across his chest is the name of a Phoenix saloon "The Palace." Reverse has earliest backpaper design by "Walter N. Brunt" of San Francisco. This has light all-over tan stain. Cello has couple of trivial tiny scratches. There are also two very tiny pinpoint raised cello bumps, one at the lower edge of his hat and one on the collar edge. Both the scratches and tiny bumps are mentioned for complete accuracy as when viewed directly everything is clean and glossy. We acquired two examples of this button about 10 years ago. The first, in lesser condition was sold at the time. This second piece has been in the Hake collection since then. Rare and we believe one of only two vintage designs to picture this famous Apache leader.
