Item Description
14x22”. Cardboard. Text at top reads “Endorsed Officially By The Statewide Democratic Conference Held At Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin And Approved By C.E. Broughton, Democratic National Committeeman.” Caption below FDR reads “President Franklin D. Roosevelt For Re-Nomination.” As the 1940 convention grew near, FDR refused to publically seek a third term, only indicating that he could not decline the nomination if his supporters drafted him at the 1940 convention. Farley (Chairman of the DNC) was left without a legitimate candidate. Roosevelt would publically support Cordell Hull after privately telling Farley and others they could seek the nomination. These Wisconsin delegates were campaigning to draft Roosevelt as the Democratic nominee yet supported Farley in the event that FDR did not get the nomination. Small text at bottom of this poster reads “Authorized, Circulated And Paid For By The Official Endorsed Roosevelt/Farley Campaign Club, Frank J. Kuhl, Chairman, Milwaukee Wisconsin.” This is a pre-national convention poster. Roosevelt did accept the nomination much to Farley’s disappointment who resigned his position as Postmaster General and party chairman because of it. Staple holes in all 4 corners. Trace of aging in upper portion. An interesting/important poster. Displays VF.
