Item Description
Although the box is missing a cardboard insert that held the watch in place, this box is one of only three we've seen. Still here is the 2x3.5" folded paper titled "Guarantee And Directions." This is generic information from the 1936 maker of this piece E.Ingraham Company of Bristol, CT. Each side of the paper has .5" hairline tear but it remains totally clean and opposite side has a photo of their huge manufacturing complex. Box bottom has a single corner split and four small .25" or less areas of red surface paper missing from the underside. Paper remains about 95% intact. The box lid has all 4 corners split but a neat repair would be a simple matter if desired. The edges of the box top are missing several long but virtual hairline slivers of the color and there is a very small 1/8"x.25" spot of surface paper off the upper left of the yellow bkg. but this blends well. Yellow bkg. has all-over but extremely light tiny gray age dots which don't stand out much but give a slight gray shading to the yellow bkg. None of the darker ink areas have this spotting and colors remain bright. Box lids and sides are covered with tiny images of stars and planets and the side panels depict additional characters such as Dr. Huer, Killer Kane and two men in space helmets plus assorted rocketships. Overall the box is Fine. The watch itself is in gorgeous N. Mint condition and running. Dial is the brightest and cleanest we've ever seen and the copper-colored lightning bolt hands have essentially full luster. Only defect on the front is a 1/8" dot along the lower left rim edge missing the silver luster. Back of the case has stamped image of Comet Man and case has near 100% silvering with just a few extremely tiny surface scratches on the case back which show only on close inspection. We've had this piece in the Hake inventory for over 15 years. We've never seen a nicer watch and this is the only box we've ever been able to offer.
