Item Description
12.5x33-7/8” frame contains matted 5.75x27” strip of thin artboard comprised of 5 separate 5.75x5.5” panels taped together. Original pen and ink art for May 1, 1910 comic strip depicts 3 dogs standing by tree, a spider hanging from tree only to jump on one dog’s tail and create a spider web. The dog flicks its tail, throwing the spider and killing it to which the dogs excitedly gather about to look at it. Signed by Steinigans in last panel. Steinigans drew about a dozen newspaper comic strips during the early 20th century, much of it appearing in the New York Herald. Scattered aging with some .5x1.5” and 1” areas of dark staining in second panel. Fine display. Rarely seen strip art.
