Item Description
1-3/16” with brass shell rim holed as made. DeWitt lists two varieties: 1860-87 featuring Lincoln portrait #1 and 1860-87A featuring Lincoln portrait #3 which is the example we are offering. The Lincoln ferro is in superb condition with the only irregularity being a little spot of darker gray color around the last 2 letters of his first name. Under magnification, but essentially invisible to the naked eye, are a pinpoint emulsion dot off his chin and 2 tiny scratches about 1/32” long each on his cheek. The Hamlin emulsion is N. Mint with just a faint 1/16” scratch crossing his hair at the top of his head but only showing the slightest in reflected light. With normal viewing the emulsion displays flawlessly and Mint. Each side of the rounded brass shell frame is decorated with a wreath of leaves. A highly desired style of ferrotype in truly Exc. condition.
