Item Description
Large 11x16” book contains complete set of the first year of “Le Journal de Mickey” published in Paris. Contains issues 1 through 52 from October 21, 1934 to October 13, 1935. Each issue is 8 pages featuring full color and bw contents including comic strips, text stories, illustrations, puzzles, games, ads, etc. Each front cover features both Silly Symphony and Mickey Sunday pages printed in full that ran earlier in 1934 in the US. Silly Symphony stories include Birds of a Feather, Penguin Isle, Wise Little Hen (including the debut of Donald Duck), Boarding School Mystery starring Max Hare and Toby Tortoise. Mickey stories which feature Floyd Gottfredson art include Rumple Watt the Giant, Tanglefoot Pulls His Weight, Dr. Oofgay’s Secret Serum and Foray to Mt. Fishflake. Non-Disney strips include Jungle Jim by Alex Raymond, Pete the Tramp, The Katzenjammer Kids. Additional Disney content includes Mickey images throughout including ads, many front pages feature cut-out activities. Additional great art appears on front and back of hardcover, front cover text also notes this is the first annual reprinting issues 1 through 52. Metal corner tip accent pieces. This publication revolutionized the French childrens publications market and introduced the American comic strips on a much larger scale. Noticeable cover aging/tan age spotting. Back cover has .5” spot of missing surface paper along right edge. Small scattered wear to the fabric spine covering. Cover VG. Contents lightly aged but remain totally clean and show very little wear. Contents overall Exc. A rare book, the only copy we’ve offered in our 43 years.
