Item Description
36.5x41.5" store sign advertising Old Gold cigarettes "America's Smoothest Cigarette." Sign was made c. 1934 and features large image of Colbert from film "Cleopatra." Top features a testimonial from her "The Mildness And Throat-Ease Of Old Gold Won Me" and has her name below. Ad tag line and image of pack of cigarettes runs at bottom of sign. This classic image from the 1934 Cecil D. DeMille film shows Colbert standing w/arms folded and wearing ancient Egyptian costume, complete w/gold headdress. This is nicely complimented by the gold frame. Sign has moderate wear including surface paper ripple at center top and left margins, a 2" chip off bottom right corner, a 1" chip off upper right corner, seven 1/8" holes for mounting in margin. One of these holes appear on Colbert's chin but due to the overall striking design, it is not that noticeable and could be easily touched up. This beautiful sign boasts rich colors and a classic Hollywood image. Fine. As framed, piece has a VF appearance. Rare. From the Hake collection.
