Auction #199 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 972 in auction 199
Item Description
7/8” in the symbolic red/white colors of the party with large text on rim reading “Los Angeles/For The Workers.” Text at center reads “Socialist/1911/Party.” Button likely relates to one if not both of the following events. On May 27, 1911 the Socialist Party nominated Job Harriman for mayor and 1911 was also the year the Socialists were defending the McNamaras. At the button’s center is a tiny 1/16” speck of missing red paper although this is as made because the missing speck is under the undamaged celluloid covering. Button has backpaper from a Los Angeles maker but the company name is curled beneath the collet rim and can’t be read unless the paper is removed. Button still displays glossy, clean and Exc. Only example we’ve seen.
