Auction #199 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 972 in auction 199
Item Description
High quality 1.75” tall enamel on brass badge for group founded in 1949 which by 1952 had over 50,000 members. The chapters aimed to organize American housewives into anti-Communist study groups, conduct letter-writing campaigns and provide a bedrock of support for McCarthyism. The group was somewhat distinguished from other anti-Communist groups in that its founder Suzanne Stevenson instructed members not to reveal they were “Minute Women” but always to present themselves as individual concerned citizens thus making political activism appear more effective by its spontaneity. Scarce and Mint.
