Item numbers 973 through 2378 in auction 199
Item Description
7.25x8x6” tall all tin litho free-wheeling pull toy with built-in key by Nifty. ©1924 King Features Syndicate, Inc. Barney is depicted atop a scooter while Sunshine rides Spark Plug. These 2 pieces have platform bases and are attached to the axles so that when the toy is pulled along, they move as if racing one another. As toy is pulled, one will jump ahead for a second and then fall behind and this action is continuously repeated. Spark Plug is depicted wearing his horse blanket with “Spark Plug” name as well as “DeBeck” signature. Scattered tiny paint nicks/scratches. Trace of oxidation to Spark Plug base, Barney’s base has moderate scattered wear. Painted wheels have paint wear from use. Litho remains bright but VG/Fine overall. Scarce. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
