Item Description
17.5x23”. c. 1975. Same Picasso art is found on a program – rally to re-open the Rosenberg case held Feb. 2, 1975 in Santa Monica. At that event, approximately 3,000 people filled the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium when a riot patrol projectile of a type normally available only to police departments exploded in front of the air intake quickly filling the hall with an aerosol powder irritant. The crowd fled outside and within minutes Santa Monica police and firemen wearing gas masks and equipped with portable ventilator fans appeared telling the dazed and sickened crowd “The Show’s Over – Go Home.” Despite being urged to leave, over 2,000 waited more than an hour until the gas cleared and then re-entered the hall. All 26 performers including Henry Fonda remained and went on with show. Although this poster does not specifically indicate the Feb. 2nd event, it most certainly would be from that era. Upper edge has 3 areas with small creasing which resulted in a pair of 1” tears repaired on reverse by archival tape. Matting would easily cover damage area. Also has 2 long but light hairline vertical creases. Still very clean for display. See trio of related buttons item #424.
