Item Description
Hake #158. 1.25” with name of maker on curl Philadelphia Badge Co. Button’s red text reads “Mitchell Day Oct. 29, 1936.” Mitchell Day was celebrated annually by Pennsylvania coal miners on various dates each year to honor the memory of the early president of the United Mine Workers who led their fight for the 8-hour day. This button pictures “Franklin D. Roosevelt,” Pennsylvania governor “Geo. H. Earle” and then president of the United Mine Workers “John L. Lewis.” Button has a number of widely scattered pinpoint darker dots but this is as printed and the button is actually in Exc. condition with just a few tiny and typical surface wear marks that show only on close study in reflected light. Button has perfect centering and high gloss. Rare.
