Item numbers 1187 through 2776 in auction 200
Item Description
Extensive collection of Hendler Ice Cream Kewpie advertising items. Lot of 14 paper items ranging in age from c. 1900s-1950s. All depict various versions of Rose O’Niell’s cute Kewpie characters, most shown eating ice cream. Of note, one sits on crescent moon eating ice cream and another eats ice cream while wearing “Kewpie Base Ball Team” hat with baseball bat between legs. Another great image shows Kewpie wearing glasses holding vial of liquid in front of chemistry books and microscope. Advertisements include sample prints, table card and store hangers, etc. Of particular note are 2 die-cut Kewpie images showing same picture of winged Kewpie spoonful of ice cream. One of these is in vintage 6.25x12.25” frame with hand-written text “Hendler Kewpie ‘The Velvet Kind’.” This item most likely hung in ice cream parlor. Majority of items are VF-Exc. overall. One c. 1950s shelf sign shows moderate wear along right margin and is VG.
