Item Description
2.25” sepia real photo button with the text somewhat off-center but still easily read as “Y.M.C.A. Convention 1905/Leslie M. Shaw.” Reverse has covered tin back with large vertical stickpin fastener. Pin is free to move up and down somewhat but does not come free of the button. Shaw was the 17th governor of Iowa until 1902 when he became United States Secretary of the Treasury under Theodore Roosevelt, serving until 1907. In 1908 he was a Republican Party presidential hopeful. When Taft got the nomination, he returned to banking in New York City. Couple of long but light hairlines catch reflected light and right side has very slightest bit of cloudiness to the celluloid but both factors are quite minor and piece displays Exc. Only example we’ve seen.
