Item Description
10x17.5x7” tall tri-corner sea captain’s hat, one of several worn by Laughton during filming of the 1935 MGM classic film starring Laughton and Clark Gable. Hat has Leopold Verch German theater costumer tag in inside. “C. Laughton Mutiny On The Bounty 2” inked on inside brim. Hat shows wear with a few .25” tears to felt covering revealing cardboard frame underneath. Overall, hat displays VF. Accompanied by appropriate documentation verifying that the hat originated from the famous MGM May 3, 1970 Star Wardrobe/Prop Auction. Hat was then later purchased from Heritage Auctions in Apr., 2005 for $2,400. Comes with 11x15” vintage frame which contains vintage bw photo of Laughton as Captain Bligh. Photo has been double-matted to 7.25x9” and has been signed in black ink. Smaller 1x4.75” opening reveals another Laughton signature in black ink, Laughton adding “Captain Bligh” character name. Fine/VF display. Comes with Hake’s COA.
