Item Description
2.75” with pair of cut-out tin prongs on the reverse that once held about 3 layers of die-cut felt which were used to wipe pen points. Although the felts are missing from this piece, they could be easily replaced from a piece of lesser quality. Superb color image of old woman scrubbing behind a young boy’s ears with caption along bottom edge “’You Dirty Boy’.” Curl reads “Pen Wiper Made By The Whitehead & Hoag Co.” with their New Jersey address and “Pat. Applied For.” Very faint 1/16” tan age dot on far left edge and 2 or 3 pinpoints on right edge but piece still displays Exc. with full gloss and superb subtle coloring. c. 1900 and only the third we’ve seen.
