Item Description
9x12” two-sided illustrated envelope. Copyright and postal cancellation 1939. Lot consists of envelope and 7 pieces of printed material. First is hand-addressed envelope to prospective salesman with printed images of characters/playhouse front and back. Extensive text on back explains toy and characters. Handling creases/age toning. 4.5” split at flap seam. Envelope Fine. Enclosed papers explain components of the toy and interesting product distribution concept. Idea was for a retailer to have toy sample (see actual item #2287) on display at his store as a trade stimulator. The retailer would give his customers a card picturing the toy. Card also had printed blocks containing price amounts, 5, 10, 25 cents etc. to be punched out. When customer had spent $2.50 they were then entitiled to purchase the Popeye toy for the special price of $1.25. Toy was produced by “Harding Products, Inc.” Pages/instructions include one titled “Salesman’s Confidential Selling Instructions.” Text includes a 4-stage formula for the successful promotion of this trade stimulator idea to retailers. Other papers in this lot show what was to be received by the retailer to use - Included were 100 of the cards to be punched, posters ,a counter sign and 2 of the toys. Papers show lt. handling wear. Overall VF. An interesting paper group.
