Item Description
10x12x3.25” deep cardboard box acts as theater for Popeye, Olive, Wimpy. Copyright 1939 King Features Syndicate. Made by Harding Products, Philadelphia. (See previous item lot #2286). Elaborate, illustrated cardboard stage with back panel nicely illustrated as is front of theatre. Character names appear on front and back of stage. Box insert has printed "wooden" stage floor with illustrated back panel. Insert side panels show sideshow barker on one side, chef making hamburgers with text “Hamburgers/Today Free” on left. Stage opening side areas show wear/handling creases. Box remains sturdy. Overall outside of “Theatre” VG. Stage area (box insert) remains bright, clean and VF. Brightly painted composition figures of Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy each have wood feet and are designed to be ramp walkers. Each has printed name and KFS copyright on shoe bottoms. Figures are hand-painted, bright and glossy. Touch of paint loss to dress and pants bottoms. Random, but minimal paint flakes on characters’ clothing. All 3 characters remain VF. Scarce. An interesting grouping.
