Item Description
3” dia. embroidered felt patch reads at center around image of U.S. Capitol dome “Washington-D-C/August 1935.” Border reads “National Jamboree Boy Scouts Of America.” This is the patch designed for what was planned to be the first national jamboree in the Summer of 1935; however, it was cancelled due to an outbreak of polio early in the summer. Two years later, the jamboree was actually held using essentially the same patch design but center of the 1937 patch has image of Washington Monument, the date below the monument is 1937, the Scout symbol at top edge and 3 letters representing directions of the compass were changed from yellow to blue and the lettering on the outer edge of the patch was changed from purple to red. Bright and clean. Essentially Mint condition. Also see early Boy Scout on bicycle button item #580.
