Item Description
13/16” early button probably issued around 1915 when President Wilson proclaimed the annual holiday. The concept was first promoted by Julia Ward Howe a few years earlier. Howe was also the first president of the New England Women’s Suffrage Association. Button has tiny stain traces on the reverse by the collet but none on the front. Back also has early paper reading “Smith & Lamar” naming the locations of Nashville, Dallas and Richmond. Exc. and displays Mint. Comes with Hake’s COA. Only example we’ve seen.
