Item Description
The first Father’s Day was celebrated June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. Presidents Wilson and Coolidge endorsed the idea but it took until 1972 under the presidency of Richard Nixon to be officially recognized. The first of these buttons is 1.75” and reads “Don’t Forget Dad/Father’s Day/Sunday, June 15.” Couple tiny tan dots on the blue rim along bottom edge and at upper left but they blend and the piece still displays nicely. Issued to be worn by store clerks of some unknown company. Second is exceedingly early button with backpaper by Whitehead & Hoag used only 1898-1900. Pictures elderly bearded gentleman captioned simply “Dad.” Rwb rim has faded but o/w condition remains clean and glossy. Hake book Collectible Pin-Back Buttons photo example Holidays & Seasons #20 and #22. These are 2 of only 3 buttons shown for Father’s Day in the book. Comes with Hake’s COA.
