Item Description
Each is 7/8” with backpaper reading “American Pepsin Gum Co.” Papers also have name of maker W&H. Buttons are likely from 1897, the year of the St. Patrick’s Day fight in Carson City, Nevada, in the first open-air arena ever erected specifically for a boxing match. Fitzsimmons won in the 14th. Corbett is N. Mint and displays Mint. Fitzsimmons has faintest tan tone to the bkg. and reverse has short hairline cello split by the collet but laying perfectly flat and causing no problem. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
