Item Description
Lot of two. 3.5x5.5”. c. 1920s. Both show a large fabric-covered wood figure of “Spark Plug” on the beach with the ocean visible in the bkg. Each has back stamp reading “H.H. Duncker, Cameraman/Hardie’s Casino, Miami Beach, Florida.” First is one of lady waving. She must have just gotten out of the water as Spark Plug’s blanket appears wet beneath her. A beer bottle is somehow attached to Sparky’s rear end in this photo. A stick is seen in front of Sparky with 2 signs reading “Miami Beach/Miami, Florida.” A small alarm clock is strapped to Sparky’s front leg. In the foreground is an opened mouth alligator in pursuit of a small black baby figure. Tiny corner bump at bottom right. Trace of aging, but image remains clean and clear. Unused. Fine. Second is photo of young man posed by the same “Spark Plug” figure. The beer bottle, metal signs, alligator and black baby do not appear in this photo. He leans against the figure wearing typical 1920s era clothing. Ink notation at bottom reads “Miami Beach, Florida.” Postally used and sent on Mar. 12 from Miami, however year is not legible. 3” long diagonal crease appears on bottom left. Corner stain as seen. Handling creases. VG. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
