Item Description
Lot of five. First is 9.25x12”. Late 1950s program. 32 pages. Printed on glossy paper, this program is filled with many bw photos of Dietrich in various costumes, many from movies in which she performed. Numerous articles from all over the world are printed in English, French and German. From the early 1950s until the mid-1970s, Dietrich worked almost exclusively as a highly-paid cabaret artist, performing live in large theaters in major cities worldwide. Dietrich signed Burt Bacharach as her musical arranger in the mid-1950s. His picture is on the last page. Cover has moderate center crease, becomes lighter throughout program. Handling wear. Fine. Next are four 12x18” tabloid style French movie magazines. 16 pages each. Titled “Pour Vous” (for you). Included are #228, March 30, 1933; #235, May 18, 1933; #436, March 25, 1937. All show typical wear to spines. Aging overall. VG to Fine. Last one is titled “Viola” dated March 3, 1934. Dietrich is pictured on cover and full page article inside. Two of the three pictures in the article show her with altered photos of being with Adolph Hitler. All text is in French, but it can be assumed that there is a question of a scandal. Typical wear to spine. Aging overall. VG/Fine. An interesting lot. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
