Item Description
1x5.5x7.5" box c. 1910. Cardboard lid shows choice full color art of Buster looking at laughing clown as Tige looks startled. Artist-signed at lower right by creator R. F. Outcault. Text at bottom of art includes "Published By Selchow & Righter N.Y./Permission N.Y. Herald." .5x.75" area of surface paper loss in yellow field below word "Circus," likely where price sticker was removed. Two horizontal uneven wrinkles run across center of lid, appear to be in application of illustration being applied to rest of lid. Two corners are reinforced w/clear tape. Comes w/39 of 40 cards, each 2.5x3-5/8" in choice color art w/captions below. Missing is card showing Yellow Kid. Each card is in some way related to the circus theme. Beautifully illustrated. Card backs are blw striped patterns. Cards include "The Ringmaster Cracked His Whip," Buster on one foot on horseback w/caption "He Rode The Pony." Another shows a monkey grabbing Tige's tail w/caption "The Monkey Took To Tige." Many show Buster w/circus animals including a frightened Buster and Tige standing beside a caged lion w/giraffe looking on and the caption "The Lion Growled." Beautifully illustrated. Also comes w/4.75x6" four-page pink paper instruction folder w/story corresponding to pictures on cards. Box is Fine, cards are Exc.
