Auction #200 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1186 in auction 200
Item Description
1-3/16” with brass luster rim surrounding sepia portrait with text “Welcome Fighting Bob.” Image area has slightest trace of cloudiness to it but no stain and details remain perfectly clear. Robeley Dunglison Evans was nicknamed ‘Fighting Bob’ due to heroic military actions in the Civil War and later in the Spanish-American War. He later commanded the Atlantic fleet on its world tour 1907-1908 and this button likely dates from the fleet’s arrival in San Francisco May, 1908. See next related item. Rare and VF.
