Item Description
1.5” tall in brass with high relief image of symbolic female flanked by the letters “RF.” In addition to text already quoted, reverse text reads “Medaille d’Honneur” while at the bottom is the apparent name of the sculptor “G. Fiaccarini.” This group, bearing scars of battle, toured the US in January 1917 under the auspices of Society For The Re-Education Of Maimed Soldiers.” As this medal attests, they apparently returned in 1919 and in that year their song “Marche Lorraine” became one of Billboard’s top singles of 1919.
