5.75x8” hardcover with 280 pages. Published by Little, Brown & Company during the first year Salinger’s classic was in print. 1951 edition with copyright dates of 1945, 1946 and 1951, letter “W” above “Published Simultaneously In Canada By McClelland And Stewart Ltd.” on title page verso. “Book-Of-The Month Club Selection” on rear dust jacket fly leaf plus Lotte Jacobi’s bw photo of author on rear dust jacket. Salinger did not care for this photo and very few of these dust jackets are still in existence. Dust jacket about 90% complete (with clips) and with long tear across front and spine which has been restored by mounting on high quality paper. Good. Book itself has complete gold gilt stamp on spine. Book itself shows lt. corner tip wear and is Exc. Bottom edges of closed pages have 1” long ink line, o/w book is VF. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
